How Not to Get Lost
1. From the plaza, take “Heroes del Chaco” street and walk to Hotel El Viejo Molino.
2. In the curve, just passed the hotel, turn right and follow the path to Miraflores (there is a gate, but it
is never closed).
3. When you arrive at the main dirt road, follow it to the left. Don’t take the sidetrack that turns left.
1-3: 30 minutes
4. About half an hour down the road, there is a path that shortcuts the big hairpin curves. They’ll save
you some time, but they’re really steep.
5. Ten minutes down is the start of the “Senda del Turista”. This path is somewhat less steep.
4-5: 45 minutes to 1 hour
6. You arrive at a cabin. Cross the small but deep canyon and follow the path.
7. You arrive at a wild part of the river, with another cabin and a bridge. Don’t cross the bridge, but
follow the path on the side of the river you’re on.
8. Downstream from where the path meets the river, you can have a nice wild water swim.
9. If you are willing to wet your feet from time to time, you can follow the river upstream. After about an
hour you’ll reach the confluence of the Río San Cristobal and the Río Vagante. The right branch is a small
canyon, which forms some great secluded swimming pools.
6-9: 1 to 2 hours
10. There are two options to go back. Option one is taking the same route downstream, and then
climbing up the mountains again. For the time being, there are no shops on the road. However, if you
see someone in one of the plenty orange and mandarin yards, they’ll sell you more fruit than you want
to carry for one Boliviano.
